- 25mins from Junction 27 on the M5
- relaxed friendly farmhouse atmosphere
- beautifully restored medieval longhouse in secluded valley
- swimming pool and tennis court
- dogs and horses by arrangement
Full of character, Mill Barton is a charming medieval farmhouse in its own secluded valley between Tiverton, South Molton and Crediton, which are ancient unspoilt market towns.
From us, you can visit beautiful gardens, historic houses and fascinating National Trust properties. Exmoor - Lorna Doone country - with its Red Deer and Exmoor ponies and the charming little towns of Dulverton and Dunster, is just to the north, and Dartmoor, higher and wilder, dotted with tors, is about 25 miles to the south. Barnstaple and the sandy beaches of North Devon are 45 minutes to the northwest, whilst the sailing centres of Topsham, Dartmouth and Salcombe are on the south coast. Plymouth and the Cornish border are 1 ½ hours away.
Horses and dogs are welcome, by arrangement, and this is a good base for walking and riding. Around the farm there are cross country schooling fences and a small indoor school.
For long distance walkers, we are two fields away from The Two Moors Way (between Morchard Bishop and Witheridge). If necessary, we can collect your bags from your previous night’s stay and take them on to the next. There are plenty of short walks among the wild flowers around the farm.

We have one double and one twin room, with fresh flowers, tea, coffee and biscuits, pure cotton sheets and large bath towels in your private bathroom. All the rooms overlook the beautiful valley of the River Dalch. You can play tennis on our hard court then swim in our solar-heated outdoor pool, discreetly situated between old stone barns, or just read a book on the bench by the stream in the secluded tree garden.
There are good pubs in Witheridge and Nomansland or, all within 8 miles, the Michelin starred Miner’s Arms at Knowstone, organic local food at The Stag at Rackenford or a bohemian atmosphere and delicious local food at The Lamb at Sandford. On a clear night you will be amazed by the stars - there is no light pollution here - and the silence, apart from the owls. You may well see one of our barn owls swooping across your path.
In the morning, the old oak refectory table will be laid for either a light breakfast of fresh fruit, croissants, home-made bread and marmalade or a cooked breakfast including our own freshly laid free range eggs and local smoked bacon.
